Metal Slug: Awakening unveiled by Tencent

Metal Slug: Awakening seems to be the official name for Metal Slug Code: J, that was announced in June 2020, as authorized by SNK, under development by Tencent Games’ subsidiary, TiMi Studios. You can check out the trailers for Metal Slug: Awakening and Metal Slug Code: J below:

A closed beta test for the title will be commencing in June for China, with details to follow at a later date. Considering the official SNK Youtube posted the original trailer, we should probably expect this one to arrive internationally eventually. The newest preview doesn’t include what could be assumed to be the game’s hub area, with NPCs, shops and the like milling about, where you can also presumably run into other players.

The game is meant to be faithful to the original series gameplay wise, with expansions here and there one supposes. This isn’t the first Metal Slug game to be on mobile, though most likely the one that most closely resembles the original as per its intention. Keep an eye out for further information regarding the closed beta test as June approaches. We’ll hope for a simultaneous global release at some point, or perhaps just a beta test to start eventually in the future.
