The long-rumored Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake has now been officially announced at the PlayStation Showcase 2023, being titled Metal Gear Δ: Snake Eater (the triangle is pronounced Delta).
The showcase also announced the Metal Gear Solid HD Master Collection Vol 1. which will feature HD Remasters of Metal Solid 1, 2, and 3. You can check out the teaser trailer for the remake and collection below:
Snake Eater is the earliest chronological entry in the Metal Gear timeline. Taking place during The Cold War, it sees the US operative Naked Snake, the man who will one day become Big Boss, infiltrate Russia to learn about a deadly new weapon called the Shagohod.
Released in 2004 for the PS2, the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is often seen as one of the best games in the series. It features a great plot that pays homage to classic James Bond-style spy thrillers, loveable characters, and innovative new stealth and survival mechanics. You do actually get to eat snakes in this game, as well as crocodiles and tree frogs.
Further details about the Metal Gear Snake Eater remake have not been revealed. The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection however will reportedly release in the Autumn of 2023.
There’s no confirmation of this but the fact that The Master Collection is labeled “Volume 1” gives me hope that there will be a Volume 2 which will include Metal Gear Solid 4, a game that has been stuck on the PS3 for over 15 years.
Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater will be available for PS5. It has not been confirmed if the game will launch on other consoles.
Update: It has now been confirmed that the Snake Eater Remake will also be coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC.
