The trailer for Megalobox Season 2 has dropped, giving us a new look at the continuation of the anime based on Ashita No Joe as well as the anime’s release date.
Titled Nomad Megalobox 2, the season picks up years after the ending of Megalobox, where Joe has returned to the underground world of Megaloboxing under the name Nomad. The anime has a release date of April 4th, with Megalobox Season 2 joining next season’s anime line-up.
Naturally, anyone who’s familiar with sports story tropes will know what happens to a story set years after the underdog becomes the champion, and Gearless Joe isn’t doing too well, with the fate of several characters from the first season being left ambiguous and Joe generally looking more angst ridden than his usual self in the previous season. It’s also implied he’s become addicted to painkillers, not uncommon in sports drama tropes.
Megalobox is an anime about the future where boxing is done with mechanized exo skeletons called Gears, unsurprisingly called Megaloboxing. It follows Gearless Joe, who works his way through the league as an underdog to battle his rival, all without a Gear for himself.
The first season was previously available on Malaysian Netflix, and was almost unilaterally praised for its story, art direction and music.
