The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation ( MDEC) has announced that there’s been tremendous interest in their digital industry grants, following their launch earlier this month.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil described the response to the Digital Content Grant (DCG), the Malaysia Digital X-Port Grant (MDXG) and the Malaysia Digital Catalyst Grant (MDCG) programs as “encouraging”.
“This is evidenced by the participation of close to 1,000 digital industry players at the briefing session which was held virtually on 9 May 2023”, he said in a statement. “More than 300 questions and information regarding the grant application eligibility criteria were shared by the digitalindustry players present at the session”.
“I urge more local creative industry players to take this opportunity and apply for these grants provided, and to take advantage of it in order to remain competitive in the local market and penetrate the global market”, he adds.
Applications for the MDEC grants are still open, and will continue to do so until June 1st 2023.
According to the same statement, after applications closed selected applicants will also be invited to a presentation in June, and grant winners will be announced in July.
The grants would be of particular interest to local game developers, particularly the DCG since it has separate grants for the following scales:
- Mini Project Grant
- Development Grant
- Production Grant
- Marketing and Commercialisation Grant
The grants range from RM150,000 to RM2 million, and is targeted at animation, digital games, digital comics, and creative technology.
Previous grant recipients include local productions like Mechamato, as well as games like Rhythm Doctor.
