Mashiro Witch: Midnight Marchen announced by Square Enix

Adding to their recent string of mobile games, Square Enix has just announced Mashiro Witch: Midnight Marchen, which it dubs a new “dark fantasy RPG”, developed by its Business Division 10 studio, for Android and iOS. The game will be launched as a free-to-play title with in-app purchases in 2017 in Japan.

The story revolves around a world at the brink of destruction ruled by witches known simply as the ‘Six Princesses’. In order to rescue the world, you play as a magical girls whose voice and personality are defined by human characteristics, which will make sense in a bit. Witches are entities which feed off negative emotions to fuel their powers, and by using it as magic, the negative emotions become even stronger.

The main girl goes by the name Asahina Mana, and amnesiac who has to look for her mother. In order to do that, you enter a magical academy, which in turn leads you on adventure. Although you only play one character, you are able to select from a list of characteristics, each with their own voices.
