Earlier today, Firaxis Games showed a bit off gameplay and more details on their upcoming tactical RPG, Marvel’s Midnight Suns. You can watch the gameplay reveal here:
Set in the darker side of the Marvel universe, Lilith, the Mother of Demons was revived by HYDRA through a combination of dark magic and science. In response, the Avengers revive the legendary hero known as the Hunter, the child of Lilith and the only person known to have beaten her before.
The game puts players in the shoes of the Hunter, a customisable superhero. Players can determine the gender, appearance and abilities of the Hunter. As a result, the Hunter is a multi-role character, capable of filling in any position necessary for your 3-person team in combat.
In terms of gameplay, it appears that Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a deckbuilder of sorts, with the player’s combat options dependant on the cards they have available to them. Like Slay The Spire, players get to upgrade and select their cards to use in battle, with the game promising deep, strategic gameplay. Whether it matches the level of depth and planning like Slay The Spire is still hard to tell from the gameplay, however.
Another fascinating aspect of the game is the relationships players can make with the Midnight Suns, comprised of heroes from The Avengers, X-Men, Runaways and more. Similar to Mass Effect and Persona 5, part of the game is also living together and making friends with the members of the Midnight Suns. Based on who you choose to hang out with and what you do together, said character can get stronger.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns releases in March 2022 for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, PS4, PS5 and Switch. Check out the game’s website for more info.
