Marvel Studios has released the first teaser trailer for its highly anticipated film Thunderbolts, set to be the 36th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Among the trailer’s highlights is a scene featuring Florence Pugh’s character, Yelena Belova, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The trailer, which debuted on September 23, 2024, offers fans a glimpse of what to expect when the movie hits theaters on May 2, 2025. At the one-minute and four-second mark, viewers can spot Yelena on Lebuh Ampang, a well-known street in the Malaysian capital. The scene showcases the former Menara HSBC South Tower building imploding in the background, while a sign for “Kedai Kopi Kong Hoe” (Kong Hoe Coffeeshop) is visible to Yelena’s right.
This Malaysian connection aligns with earlier reports of Pugh filming in the country. The actress seemingly confirmed her involvement in a Malaysian shoot during a July 28 interview with Variety, where she mentioned performing a stunt that involved “jumping off the second tallest building in the world.” This likely refers to Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur, which currently holds that title at 678.9 meters tall.

Thunderbolts* stars Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and David Harbour, among others. The film is expected to continue storylines from previous Marvel productions, including the Black Widow movie and the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The plot reportedly revolves around a group of mercenaries sent on a mission that proves to be more complex than initially presented.
Fans have noted the asterisk in the film’s title, leading to speculation about its significance and whether Thunderbolts might be a placeholder name.
