While Marvel Studios does take some artistic liberty when it comes to handling the MCU compared to the comics, it seems that they’re paying serious homage to the original comics this time around. I’m talking about the Big Spot trailer that was recently revealed by Marvel Studios. In case you’re not caught up, here’s the video on their channel.
As the trailer reveals, Disney+ is gonna show us The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision and Loki. Let’s dig deeper into it.
First off, Falcon was set up to be the successor for Captain America in Endgame. Now, we see him with the shield in the upcoming trailer. This is definitely gonna be playing up the comic’s version of the latest Captain America, which has Falcon taking up the mantle.
Next up is WandaVision and there is a LOT to unpack. Scarlet Witch’s character development and writing has been handled as chaotically as her powerset (which seems to do her poetic justice). Now, it looks like Marvel wants to show us that chaos in the upcoming WandaVision. We see her shown in a multitude of costumes, including her wedding gown, a pregnancy dress with a baby bump, her original comic costume (complete with the “M” shaped tiara) and a modern “soccer mom” look. I am really excited to see how they fold all these costumes into her current MCU lore, especially her original bright, red comic costume.
Most of WandaVision takes place inside a family household, which signals to me that they’re going to take an approach similar to the Vision comics depicted below. I won’t spoil you guys too much, just thought this would interest you guys.
Last but not least, we see two baby pacifiers being spat out in one scene. There are two possibilities here. Either this is all just some nightmare-ish fake/alternate reality or Scarlet Witch’s twin children are coming to the MCU. The whole story about Scarlet Witch’s children is worth it’s own article so I won’t go too in-depth into it.
Lastly, we have Loki. There is little to nothing to go off of, except for a closeup of him saying “I’m gonna burn this place to the ground.” Which may or may not be a reference to Thor: Ragnarok. The other thing that can be observed is the TVA, which could be short for the Time Variance Authority.
There’s so much that Marvel has to address here, most glaringly of course, being the fact that Vision and Loki aren’t truly dead. There’s a possibility of WandaVision happening before Endgame, but Loki really had no where to go throughout most of the MCU’s continuity, so I can’t see that being another prequel. Besides, Marvel might not want to dump so many prequels on us, considering the Black Widow movie that’s also on the way.
That’s all for now, I guess. Here’s to hoping for more Disney+ news in the future! In the meantime, you can click here for more Marvel goodness!
