Jonathan Majors, best known for playing Kang The Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is being dropped by the studio following his conviction on Assault charges.
Deadline reports that following the verdict, Marvel Studios will no longer be working with Jonathan Majors.
Majors was found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, following an altercation over texts on his phone.
The trial lasted two weeks, with the case being brought by the State of New York rather than Jabbari herself, making it a criminal case rather than a civil one.
This comes as a particularly big blow to Marvel, who had three phases worth of movies building to him as its major multidimensional antagonist, Kang The Conqueror.
Majors had already played several iterations of Kang The Conqueror, who appears in both theatrical releases such as Quantumania as well as TV series like Marvel’s Loki.
Thankfully, having a multiverse-themed enemy means recasting shouldn’t be much of a hurdle- after all, Marvel has recasted characters before such as Terence Howard being replaced with Don Cheadle in Iron Man 2.
It’s not just Marvel that’s dropping him, either- Variety reports that Majors has since had multiple projects binned, being dropped by his talent manager, his publicity firm as well as advertising and movie roles.
