MARVEL Battle Lines, the game that was announced by Nexon in collaboration with Marvel back in June 2018. With Dev Cat on board as well, they have created this mobile TCG consisting of popular Marvel heroes and villains. The game is now soft-launched in several countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Australia! However the game is only available in the Google Play Store.
As you might already know, the game is a TCG that will require players to build a deck of cards consisting of Marvel heroes. Using a turn-based battle system with a twist, players need to form lines on a 3×4 board to deal damage onto the Villain (kinda like Yu-Gi-Oh without the need to form lines).
Either forming lines of 3 or 4 or even 2 lines aligned in an X (3×3) or an L (4×3), you will deal damage to your opponents. Players can also move the card laid on the board to attack opponent’s card that’s laid on the board as well and take its place if it is defeated. Of course, one of a strategy is to block your opponents, but you risk your opponents killing off your card if not played correctly and timely.
Players start off with a generic deck but will later obtain a free Hawkeye (assuming everyone gets the same for the first card). As players progress further, players will be able to obtain cards through the campaign mode (Iron Man, DareDevil and so on) or buy a pack off the Shop with Gems or Gold (which is only open once you completed the tutorial – Campaign Stage 1-6).
There are also other modes to play instead of the Campaign like the Battle Mode, where you can play against an A.I. to test your deck or Special Ops where you can farm the cards you want after completing the objectives which unlocks the auto-play. The Special Ops will be unlocked according to your Campaign progression so it is best to focus on that first.
The game is still in its testing phase and there have been reports from players of being unable to start the game after the update. However, I had no issues with that. The game played well on my OnePlus 3T and being an old player of devCAT’s Mabinogi Duel, MARVEL Battle Lines plays just fine and it can be a great game for TCG enthusiast or Marvel fans alike – like me!
For now there’s no news for iOS yet. Since it’s still not a global official launch, iOS users will have to wait until official launch date is announced.
