While classic tokusatsu franchises like Ultraman and Power Rangers rise to new heights, Malaysia has just seen the launch of a new tokusatsu series with ‘Mighty Knight Bayu’, a brand new comic book series.
The comic is being published by Malaysian independent publisher Wiroes Studio Enterprise. The comic will be made up of 80 pages with a size of 148mm x 210mm (A5). It will be priced at RM14 for Peninsular Malaysia and 15.50 for Sabah and Sarawak.
Here’s an official promo for the comic:
The plot is your classic tokusatsu premise of a young protagonist who is given the power to transform into an armored hero. Here is the official synopsis:
“Mirul is your ordinary student. One day, he comes across Agent Hana who is being chased by Native Primitives for carrying the elusive MK Driver. Mirul’s world is turned upside down as he is dragged into a conflict regarding forces beyond his wildest comprehension. Without thinking, Agent Hana gives MK Driver to Mirul into the Mighty Knight Bayu. Can Mirul defeat Native Primitive and save Agent Hana?”
I suppose you’ll just have to read and find out.
The artwork for the suit and the kaiju is really vibrant and detailed, you can definitely see the influences from Kamen Rider and Sentai.
Mighty Knight Bayu comic issue 01 is available at ‘Popular’ retail bookstores and Wiroes Studio’s Shopee store.
