Malaysia-based game studio Lemon Sky is set to be publicly listed, according to a report by The Edge Malaysia.
Citing sources familiar with the matter as well as Reuters, The Edge Malaysia reports that not much is currently known about the plans for the studio to go public- though they’re reportedly is planning to go public around either late 2023 or 2024.
Lemon Sky is one of several major game studios in Malaysia, having been involved in various triple-A releases like Warcraft Reforged as well as recent releases like Street Fighter 6.
The studio was acquired by Australian publisher iCandy Interactive in 2021, with the aim of working on more Metaverse games.
At the time of the acquisition, the studio was valued at MYR135 million, though it’s not known what the current value of the studio or the size of its Initial Public Offering (IPO) is going to be.
Neither Lemon Sky nor iCandy Interactive themselves have commented on The Edge’s report as of writing.
While primarily known for their work in video games, Lemon Sky’s portfolio extends into animated shows as well, having partnered with companies like Nickelodeon to produce shows like Santiago of the Seas.
Should the deal go through and Lemon Sky be listed, this would mark a big step forward for the studio- since they would have to potentially answer to multiple shareholders instead of just their parent company, iCandy.
