Malaysia Esports Federation (MESF) Demands Accountability for National Flag Disrespect in MLBB

The Malaysia Esports Federation (MESF) has expressed outrage over two incidents of disrespect toward the Jalur Gemilang, Malaysia’s national flag, within the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) community, urging public apologies and stronger measures from Moonton Games.

The first incident involved BloodThirstyKings player Michael “MobaZane” Cosgun, who shared an Instagram story labeling Malaysia’s flag with the word “noob,” a term often used especially in the online competitive multiplayer space, mocking inexperienced players. The post is no longer available on his profile, and MobaZane has since apologized on YouTube, acknowledging his actions as disrespectful. “I want to sincerely apologize to the Malaysian community and anyone else offended,” Cosgun stated.

The second controversy arose during the IESF World Esports Championship 2024, where the MLBB Professional League Indonesia (MPL ID) posted a graphic misrepresenting Malaysia’s flag by omitting key details when announcing Malaysia’s 2-1 victory result over Indonesia. MESF criticized this act, calling it a violation of professionalism and demanding an official apology to Malaysia’s esports community.

MESF has urged Moonton Games to implement stricter oversight and address these issues within seven days to prevent future disrespect. “The incorrect representation of the Malaysian flag on social media undermines professionalism and the integrity of international events,” MESF declared in their official statement.

While MobaZane has responded, MPL ID has yet to issue a statement. With the M6 World Championships on the horizon, these incidents underscore the need for cultural respect and professionalism within the global esports arena.
