Original Article:
A website has been launched for Weathering with You director Makoto Shinkai’s next film titled ‘Suzume no Tojimari’ which can be roughly translated as ‘Suzume’s Lock’ or ‘Suzume’s Locked Door’.
The website shows a beautifully drawn door in the middle of a ruined building surrounded by water.
Shinkai has previously stated that the movie would have a post-apocalyptic setting compared to his last few films, which certainly fits the serene yet desolate tone of the promotional art.
Going to the website’s story section gives us this first synopsis of the film:
“Suzume, a 17-year-old girl living in a quiet town in Kyushu, is looking for a door. As if drawn by something, Suzume reaches for the door, but… Soon, doors begin to open one after another all over Japan. The doors that open must be closed, or evil will come from the other side. It is said that the doors that open must be closed. –The stars, the setting sun, and the morning sky. The stars, the setting sun, the morning sky. In the place where I wandered, there was a sky where all time seemed to have melted together. Guided by the mysterious door, Suzume’s “journey of shutting the door” begins.”
Aside from Makoto Shinkai as the director, Masayoshi Tanaka will be the character designer, Kenichi Tsuchiya will be the animation director, and Takumi Tanji as the art director. They all reprise these roles from working on Your Name and Weathering with You.
