Mahjong Soul anime release date announced

The previously announced Mahjong Soul anime adaptation has confirmed its release date! Previously only getting an April 2022 release window, the Mahjong Soul anime has an air date of 1 April 2022, alongside the establishment of a new promotional video and an anime specific website. The Japanese website in the meanwhile, is relatively barebones. At time of writing, you can’t access the introduction, character, movie and Blu-Ray tabs. The “movie” should be more on the promotional trailers rather than an actual movie.

If you’re unfamiliar with Mahjong Soul, it is a video game that takes Riichi Mahjong (Japanese Mahjong) and pits players against each other in anime avatars. Developed by Catfood Studios, the game was first released in China back in 2018, before releasing as a browser game in Japan the next year. Mahjong Soul is currently available worldwide via the App Store and Play Store.

The anime is titled Mahjong Soul Pon☆  and will feature a chibi art style. It will be animated by SCOOTER FILMS and is set to be directed by Morii Kenshirou, who also directed gacha game-inspired anime like the Granblue Fantasy spin-off anime, Gran Blues! 

Worldwide audiences will be able to watch the episodes through the official Youtube channel every Friday, 10:00 AM UTC -7.
