We’re back once again with another card preview for Magic: The Gathering (MTG) and this time, featuring a rather special one, Elder Owyn Lyons for the upcoming Fallout collaboration set, thanks to our friends at Wizards of the Coast.
In Magic: the Gathering – Fallout, Elder Owyn Lyons will be a 4-cost Legendary Creature with synergy with Artifact cards, allowing you to protect them or return them from the graveyard.
To summon him, you would need 2 colorless mana, as well as 1 white and 1 blue, totaling up to 4 costs – Elder Owyn Lyons will have a stat of 3/3.
The effect of Elder Owyn Lyons is as follows:
Artifacts you control have ward 1. (Whenever an artifact you control becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, counter it unless that player pays 1.)
When Elder Owyn Lyons enters the battlefield or dies, return target artifact card from your graveyard to your hand.
Based on its effects, Elder Owyn Lyons would suit any decks that would utilize Artifacts as its core strategy as he can protect them from harm as well as revive any destroyed ones.
Its primary effect essentially grants a layer of protection to every Artifact you control, forcing opponents to have to pay 1 mana if they are to target them with spells – making it tricky for them in the midgame when mana resources are still low.
Meanwhile, the secondary effect can bring back any destroyed Artifact card from your graveyard back to your hand when he enters the battlefield or dies. Essentially, making it 2 total Artifacts to be brought back.
With Elder Owyn Lyons on the field, Artifact cards become an ever-threatening presence, making him a force to be reckoned with if you are facing against him.
And that’s it for this round’s card preview! Elder Owyn Lyons will be available as part of the Magic: the Gathering – Fallout set in collaboration with Bethesda, available March 8th, 2024. Our thanks to Wizards of the Coast for letting us check out this card ahead of the set’s release!
