Magic: The Gathering has provided a detailed look at its upcoming Final Fantasy crossover set, scheduled for release on June 13. The collaboration, which was initially announced in October 2024, will introduce over 100 legendary creature cards, with 55 featuring borderless designs.
The set marks a significant milestone as the 105th expansion for Magic: The Gathering and, notably, will be legal for standard play—unlike previous Universes Beyond releases such as Assassin’s Creed and Spider-Man crossovers.
All of the mainline @FinalFantasy games are represented in #MTGxFINALFANTASY and are given the full tentpole release experience. Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, Commander decks and more.

Four Commander Decks will showcase beloved characters from mainline Final Fantasy games. Players can choose between Final Fantasy 7’s Cloud Strife, Final Fantasy 10’s Tidus, Final Fantasy 6’s Terra Branford, or Final Fantasy 14’s Y’shtola Rhul. The set features artwork from renowned Final Fantasy artists Yoshitaka Amano and Tetsuya Nomura, alongside contributions from other talented artists.
The collaboration introduces innovative gameplay mechanics, including double-faced cards that can transform under specific conditions. For instance, Final Fantasy 14’s Emet-Selch can transform into Hades when a player accumulates 14 or more cards in their graveyard. A new “Saga Creature” card type has also been introduced, incorporating the Saga mechanic with creature cards. Iconic Final Fantasy Summons, such as Shiva, will utilize this mechanic to deliver powerful attacks after gaining lore counters. For newcomers to Magic: The Gathering, a Starter Kit will be available featuring pre-constructed decks centered around the iconic rivalry between Final Fantasy 7’s Cloud and Sephiroth.
