We’re back at it again with another card preview for the upcoming Magic the Gathering (MTG) set Bloomburrow, and this time, we have the spell-slinging lizard warlock Hearthborn Battler in both Regular and Extended Art. Bloomburrow, which is set on the plane of the same name, features a world of cute anthropomorphic animals with no humans in it.
“Venture to a tiny, idyllic land and gather your friends for a woodland party in this larger-than-life Magic set! Take to the battlefield and defend your folk!” – Wizards of the Coast
Now onto our card preview.
The effect and card text of Hearthborn Battler are as follows:
Cost: 2R
Card Name: Hearthborn Battler
Creature: Lizard Warlock
Card Text:
Haste
Whenever a player casts their second spell each turn, Hearthborn Battler deals 2 damage to target opponent.
Power and Toughness: 2/3
Hearthborn Battler would seem to be a good addition to red decks in Standard. Though it does not have evasion or other keywords, its static effect could prove beneficial in the mid to late game, assuming if both you and your opponents cast two spells each turn. Moreover, this card could fit into EDH decks that like to punish and burn opponents every turn.
And that’s it for this round’s card preview! The MTG Bloomburrow set, launching on August 2, 2024 will have Hearthborn Battler available in Play boosters and Collector boosters . Our thanks to Wizards of the Coast for allowing us to preview this card ahead of the set’s release.
