A new Lord of the Rings mobile game, dubbed Lord of the Rings: Rise of War has been announced. According to tweets by Daniel Ahmad (@ZhugeEX), the current details are as follows:
Chinese game developer NetEase and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have announced a strategic partnership for the development of The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War, a new officially licensed mobile strategy game based on the iconic trilogy of books by J.R.R. Tolkien.
As he points out, this isn’t the first time Netease and Warner Brothers have teamed up to create a game, having previously collaborated on Harry Potter: Magic Awakened. The Harry Potter game is currently only available in China, last having an open beta in May 2020
We might be able to assume that Rise of War will also start out being exclusive in China to start, unless they decide to change their distribution methods. What would you be expecting from this mobile strategy game? It’s probably also safe to assume it’ll be a free to play title, with microtransactions. Base building often is a part of these games, but we’ll have to wait and see for further information regarding the title before more speculation. Hopefully it’ll head globally sooner than later, too.
