Hollywood actor Will Poulter opened up about his time on the set of the upcoming Dark Pictures Anthology game, Little Hope.
In the first of a series of interviews to promote the game, the Maze Runner actor talked about his experience playing three different characters. In Little Hope, he plays the characters of Anthony, Abraham and Andrew. The three characters exist in different time periods and different places.
“Something that the team behind this project communicated to me from early on was a need to make the relationship between the different characters and their individual arcs feel truly authentic” he said, discussing what drew him to the role.
Little Hope, Big Role
Moreover, the Bandersnatch actor also talked about the challenges in playing a non-linear role. As a decision-based game, Little Hope contains many branching story paths, as opposed to more linear media like movies.
“It’s fun you know, because I think having a little bit of experience in movies where you ordinarily just play one outcome and you’re responsible for a single path through a storyline,” he says. Also, he talked about the intertwining narratives in the game, and what it was like being a part of it.
However, Poulter talks about his lack of experience in the horror genre. In the interview, he also mentions the importance of authenticity in his role. Rather than be slaves to the genre, he says it’s better to play to the reality of the role. He says the deconstructive nature of the script also gave the cast plenty of space to inject humor.
Dark Pictures: Little Hope is a game part of the Dark Pictures Anthology. The previous entry, Man of Medan, was a horror game about a group of characters stuck on a ghost ship. Little Hope shares a similar setup, only against the backdrop of a small town with its own take on the Salem Witch Trials.
Dark Pictures: Little Hope releases on PS4, Xbox 1 and PC October 30th, 2020.
