Kicking off the second day of MYDCF, an opening ceremony was given out by three VIP members in YB Tuan Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh the Chairman of MDEC, YBRS Ts Mahadir Aziz the Chief Executive Officer MDEC, and YBHG Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, theSecretary General Ministry of Communications.
YB Tuan Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh starts off his opening speech by saying MDEC represents the national exploration of the country when striving to build a strong and competitive national digital economy.
“We do so by while promoting inclusivity and harnessing the nation’s strength in creativity, content creation and culture.”
Syed Ibrahim continued by saying that the diverse industry of animation, game development, visual effects, creative technologies and emerging areas has the full support of the Government dating back to the early 2000s.
MDEC is clear in the support needed to continue pushing the road of Game Development and creative technologies.
“Malaysia is a hub of creativity, creative works, and digital content mastery today and in the future.”
YBRS Ts Mahadir Aziz continued by saying that this event marks the 4th year that MDEC provides a space where creative and talented individuals can engage and showcase their programs in this digital space.
He mentioned that this sector is a significant factor in the country’s economy, with it generating roughly 5 Billion ringgit annually and has created more than 2000 highly skilled jobs.
“In this sector alone, 90% of the workforce comprises local Malaysians, and so far has produced recognisable content such as Upin and Ipin, BoBoBoi, Mechamoto, Agent Ali and such”
The presence of the digital content ecosystem in MDEC signifies the potential impact that the creative industry and other economic sectors can contribute to the nation’s digital economy.
Content creators nowadays face a lower barrier to entry into the market than ever before, where they can distribute their content via various channels such as YouTube and even self publish games on Steam.
However, this lower barrier also means greater competition for attention and also relevance placing a higher focus on quality.
“Plan as you may, but the culture, the ecosystem would have to be believing in what we want to do, contributing and also participating in all that.”
Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa continued the opening ceremony, mentioning that MYDCF has grown into an annual celebration of creativity and digital, showcasing the diversity and unity of the nation’s talents.
MDEC will be introducing the “Pemamkin IP360 Metaverse” initiative that the government believes will accelerate the process of becoming a global digital powerhouse.
This initiative is a testament to Malaysia’s commitment to stay at the forefront of digital innovation, fostering a dynamic ecosystem and ensuring the nation’s relevance in the digital age.
“Our aim is to provide the infrastructure, regulation, and provide necessary support to cultivate vibrant and sustainable Metaverse ecosystem”
