The ESRB description for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom confirms Link as a playable character. The game, rated 10+, features Zelda as the primary protagonist who attempts to dispel rifts and rescue Link.
Nintendo previously announced that The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will be released on the Nintendo Switch on September 26, 2024. Check out the announcement trailer below if you haven’t seen it.
Here’s the summary of the rating by ESRB:
This is an adventure game in which players assume the role of Zelda as she attempts to dispel rifts throughout Hyrule and rescue Link. From a ¾-overhead perspective, players explore various environments while fighting stylized enemies (e.g., humans, creatures). As Link, players use a sword and arrows to defeat enemies; Zelda can use a magic wand to summon creatures (e.g., wind-up knights, pig soldiers, slime) for battle. Some enemies can be defeated by being set on fire; other creatures dissolve into mist when defeated. Battle sequences are somewhat frenetic, with several enemies attacking/fighting at once.
As for the premise of the game, the people of Hyrule are being abducted by mysterious rifts, and with a notable swordsman among the missing, it’s up to Princess Zelda to rescue her kingdom.
Join forces with the enigmatic fairy, Tri, and harness the power of the Tri Rod to learn how to create echoes—imitations of objects found in the environment. You can then use these echoes whenever needed to solve puzzles and defeat enemies.
Create echoes such as water blocks to reach higher areas, old beds as bridges, or rocks to throw at enemies. You can also combine echoes creatively to suit your needs. Additionally, you can create echoes of monsters to aid you in combat.
In The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, players will explore environments, battle enemies using Zelda’s magic wand, and occasionally play as Link, who uses a sword and arrows. The exact extent of Link’s playability remains unclear but suggests he might be playable at various points throughout the game. This will be the first time in 38 years that Princess Zelda will be taking the helm instead of the silent protagonist we all know.
