While film franchises are no stranger when it comes to crossing over to video games, Legally Blonde will unexpectedly get a mobile game soon.
This unlikely crossover happened as a result of PlaySide Studios signing a deal with Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios (MGM). PlaySide Studios is an Australian video game developer while MGM is a media company that made films such as James Bond and RoboCop.
With the name, Legally Blonde: The Game, this mobile game will be available soon on iOS and Android. Apparently, it will be a choice-based free-to-play puzzle game.
According to an interview with PlaySide Studios Vice President of Development TJ Munusamy:
“We have a good relationship with MGM and we loved the franchise. It’s about women’s empowerment. She’s smart, savvy, and has a sophisticated side. It’s one of those films that’s a classic. And mobile free-to-play has been our bread and butter.”
As a refresher, Legally Blonde is a romantic comedy film released back in 2001. The 20-year old movie starred Reese Witherspoon, who plays Elle Woods as she enrols into Harvard Law School to follow her ex-boyfriend. A sequel, titled, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde came out two years later and also features Witherspoon.
MGM announced that a third Legally Blonde film will release next year which also sees the actress reprising her role. Currently, there is no mention of whether Witherspoon will make an appearance in the game.
