Ever wondered how the characters in Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness looked so good? Watch the behind the scenes video for Infinite Darkness:
Describing the key points to this production, CG Producer Kei Miyamoto said:
“There are noise sources in human motions, which can help express movements in a natural manner. It may seem a little odd in motion capture videos, but it is an essential technology in order to produce realistic works like this.”
Director Hasumi revealed just how important motion capture was to this production, expressing a similar opinion:
“It’s not just about physical pauses, but also having psychological pauses in between their acting. It is reassuring that all these are being acted out by real humans. If this series wasn’t filmed using motion capture, then we might have had to use a different approach.”
This series also adopted new filming techniques to create more realistic visuals. Director of Photography Yun Watanabe explained:
“For this series, we wanted to shoot it like live action in order to generate a realistic look even though it is CG. For example, when the cameraman takes one step to the right, we made the animation appear as such that it looks like there’s a real cameraman moving to their right.”
