In an attempt to celebrate Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, undoubtedly one of the greatest League of Legends players of all time, Riot Games released a skin bundle with an absurd price tag, upsetting fans.
After Faker’s induction into League of Legends‘ Hall of Legends, Riot celebrates the occasion with a new bundle of skins with a massive price tag of only $500.
Fans were obviously not happy. To celebrate Faker the game’s greatest esports icon, the usual event pass was released with a number of skin cosmetics bundled in, all themed around the man himself.
One skin stood out among the rest, the Immortalized Legend skin for the champion Ahri, which is designed in Faker’s honor.
Here is the catch, in order to acquire this specific skin, you would have to spend a lot of money unlocking the pass in levels, before being able to unlock Immortalized Legend Ahri.
Basically, you spend $40, and you only get Ahri along with a basic skin for her, no special effects, but you do get various other not-so-desirable stuff like taunt, border, icon, and emote.
After that, you can shell out for various different items, but Immortalized Legend Ahri resides at the highest tier, which costs around $500. At that point, you unlock all 100 levels of the event pass, effectively buying the entire pass.
If you can spend that amount of money, you do get that skin, which comes with pretty fancy effects and animations.
Obviously, many fans were not happy as even the lowest tier skin, which is at $40, is already more expensive than most basic League of Legends skin. One Reddit user even called out Riot for using Faker’s name as a means of making money rather than celebrating him as a player.
