In a rather sudden turn of events, KLab has just announced that it will be shutting down Lapis Re:LiGHTS, its idol and magic-themed raising sim on 31 October 2022. The game first made its debut on 14 December 2021, meaning that it had a lifespan of well under a year. Sale of all premium currency has already been suspended, and all users are entitled to refunds on the unused stones after services end for good between 31 October 2022 and 31 December 2022.
To recap, the game was part of the Lapis Re:Lights multimedia project which focuses on, as you may have guessed, idols, and magical girls. There is some semblance of a story to Lapis Re:Lights, but it is not something you have not heard before. You essentially take on the role of a mentor to train idols in another world to become Top Witch. Not particularly original or anything, but that was never the point of these games. We see in the trailer an initial cast of approximately 20 characters, broken into units with names such as as Kono Hana wa Otome, Sadistic Candy, Sugar Pockets and Supernova.
It is rather unfortunate to see games go like this, but in a crowded market, it was something that we will be seeing a lot more than not.
