DreamWorks Animation has put out the first trailer for Kung Fu Panda 4, the latest entry in the animated martial arts franchise set to release next year.
Kung Fu Panda 4 is slated for a March 8th release date, and sees protagonist Po take on his next enemy- the looming threat of retirement, as he becomes chosen to be the spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace.
This of course means having to give up the title of Dragon Warrior that he earned in the very first movie- and involves him needing to find a successor for the mantle.
However, it’s not enough to have him agonize over how much of his life revolves around his work, since the trailer also introduces a new villain- the sorceress Chameleon who seeks to resurrect Po’s enemies and steal their power.
To stop her, he allies with Zhen, a crafty fox thief voiced by Awkwafina however it doesn’t look like it goes all that well since the trailer already shows her using Po’s Staff of Wisdom to resurrect Tai Lung, the villain of the first movie.
The Kung Fu Panda movies have been generally praised for their martial arts choreography and heartfelt messaging, particularly with Jack Black’s portrayal of the protagonist, Po.
