Konami registered the Japanese trademarks for ‘Metal Gear Rising’ and ‘Akumajou Dracula’ (the name of the Castlevania series in Japan).
Konami filed for these two trademarks two weeks ago on 6th April 2021. The Japanese video game developer and publisher made this news public earlier today.
However, the company did not elaborate further on the future of the two series. This has led to various speculation online. Anything from a remaster of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance or a new entry to the Castlevania franchise is entirely possible. Regardless of what Konami plans to do, fans of either series should stay tuned to the company’s English and Japanese Twitter accounts for any potential updates.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is the only video game title that uses the name Metal Gear Rising. Revengeance is a spin-off of the Metal Gear Solid franchise and it released back in February 2013. It is available on PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows via Steam, where it is positively received.
As for Castlevania, the series is primarily a side-scrolling action platformer which debuted back in the 1980s. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which released for the Sony PlayStation, is noteworthy for pioneering the Metroidvania genre of platformers.
Note that Castlevania also has an anime series, with its fourth season arriving next month. You can watch the Castlevania anime on Netflix.
