Konami Digital Entertainment has filed a lawsuit against Cygames for patent infringement regarding the game Uma Musume Pretty Derby.
Cygames parent company CyberAgent had released a statement in regards to lawsuit from the company’s investor relations page detailing the nature of the claim. The report states that the claim of 4 Billion Yen (~ USD 29 Million) was issued for the damages due to patent infringement by the game Uma Musume. Konami requests for an injunction against the production, usage, and provision through telecommunication lines of said game.
Cygames had also released an official statement on their website stating that the company had held discussions of good faith with Konami Digital Entertainment regarding the claims. Konami did not accept the views of Cygames and the lawsuit was filed.
Konami Digital Entertainment had not publicly go into detail as to which parts of Uma Musume Pretty Derby was infringing on their patent. However, Cygames had rejected any claims of the infringement and will be clarifying the validity of their position during the proceedings in the lawsuit.
Uma Musume Pretty Derby is considered to be one of the top grossing gacha games by Cygames despite not having an international release with a lifetime revenue of over 1.3 Billion USD according to AppMagic.
