The battle royale genre is very popular of late, and in Japan, Knives Out is one such title vying for the crown. The Japan unit of China-based game publisher NetEase recently enlisted Fukasaku Kenta as head consultant for the game.
For the uninitiated, Fukasaku is the writer of cult Japanese film Battle Royale (2000) which was in turn directed by his father. The sequel was also written by Fukasuku, who also ended up directing the movie after the passing of his farther.
The role of Fukasaku for Knives Out will be to build its world, by working on its background story and lore. He is currently also working with the development team on the next expansion – Final Battle of Tokyo. NetEase is going all in with the Knives Out IP, having already produced a comic series and variety show for it. All this in spite of the lawsuit the company is embroiled in.
