Jujutsu Kaisen has name dropped Malaysia again, as the latest episode sees Mei Mei going to Kuala Lumpur (KL).
At the start of episode 46, the character Mei Mei is seen chilling in Kuala Lumpur, complete with a shot of Suria KLCC and the Twin towers (albeit with some creative license).
The episode is also available to stream now on Netflix for viewers in Malaysia.
Unfortunately. unlike the previous Malaysia mention with Nanami praising it as a tourism venue, Mei Mei instead sees KL as a place to run to following the absolute mess happening in Japan.
That being said it’s not like that’s the only reason she flees to Malaysia either, since the official Jujutsu Kaisen fanbook also lists her favorite food explicitly as Malaysian Bak Kut Teh.
Meanwhile, fan reaction to the Malaysia mention has been mostly subdued this time around, largely because unlike the fan-favorite Nanami Mei Mei is far less beloved by the community.
This marks the second time Malaysia has been mentioned in Jujutsu Kaisen- manga author Gege had previously commented their love for the country, having visited it.
Interestingly enough the anime does fix a hilarious mistake from the manga, which saw Gege drawing commenting the original skyline looked “too much like Penang Hill”.
“Please don’t think too much about it”, they said.
The first Malaysia mention made huge waves online, with fans in the country even having a “Kento Nanami Memorial Shrine” on Google Maps.
It got so popular that local brands got in on the reference, with even state politicians wanting to work with Gege to promote tourism in the state of Pahang.
