With Kingdom Hearts celebrating its 20th anniversary, a stage event today has unleashed a veritable slew of trailers, including the now officially confirmed Kingdom Hearts 4. Check below for the compilation of trailers released:
It seems that Kingdom Hearts 4 was originally built using Unreal Engine 4, but will be moving to Unreal Engine 5 as it’s an “easy transition”. Additionally, Nomura has apparently stated that he wished to make a Verum Rex game, but opted for a numbered sequel instead because “he was worried for Sora”.
Number 4 seems to be along the lines of “The Lost Master Arc”, in the world of Quadratum. Sora’s only just woken up since arriving in this world when we join him in the trailer, and is supposedly some “afterworld”. Start breaking out your theories, because this world sure looks like what we’d expect in our “real world”, minus flying, Keyblades and monsters born of darkness.
As for the anniversary event itself, fans can look forward to a recap video at a later date. It’s supposed to be a closed event, and certainly conducted in Japanese, presumably the delayed release will be to include subtitles. Let’s leave off with a message from Nomura himself:
“The 20th Anniversary Event has just wrapped up. We’ve collated the videos revealed today, so if you weren’t able to come to the event, then please take a look. We’ll be providing more information at a later date. Thank you very much for today.”
