Innistrad: Midnight Hunt is just around the corner, with a return to one of my favorite areas in Magic: The Gathering. With the return to Innistrad shown off during this year’s Announcement Day Livestream, we’re happy to preview one of the returning cards, courtesy of Wizards of the Coast- Clear Shot.
Clear Shot is a green instant spell, debuting in Eldritch Moon. For those unfamiliar, it costs 2 colorless and one green having an effective cost of 3, giving one of your creatures a +1/+1.
At first thought, that might seem a bit steep, especially considering how green decks play, +1/+1 hardly seems like anything. But au contraire! It has a second effect:
It deals damage equal to its power to target creature you don’t control
After buffing one of your creatures, it targets a second creature that you don’t control, immediately damaging it. It’s great for starting off your assault, letting you snipe one creature off the board and then empowering your creature, letting you go on to attack with buffed stats.
Personally, the best part about this card isn’t just the free board-removal, it’s also the flavor text. The card’s flavor text has been updated since its Eldritch Moon release, referencing that these weapons hadn’t seen action in a long time, but are now being used to fight the ongoing werewolf problems in Midnight Hunt.
Thanks again to Wizards for letting us preview the card for the upcoming Innistrad: Midnight Hunt collection, which features sick art by Craig J Spearing.
