Lionsgate has officially confirmed that John Wick: Chapter 5 is entering development, with 60-year-old Keanu Reeves set to reprise his role as the legendary assassin. The surprising announcement was made at CinemaCon 2025 by Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.
Despite the seemingly conclusive ending of John Wick: Chapter 4, which showed the titular character collapsing from his injuries and featured scenes of Winston and the Bowery King visiting what appeared to be Wick’s grave, the franchise will continue with its fifth installment. The creative team behind the previous films will return, including franchise director and producer Chad Stahelski, along with Thunder Road producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee. Reeves will continue his involvement both as the star and as a producer.

“Keanu, Chad, Basil, and Erica would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world,” Fogelson stated during the announcement. “We can’t wait for audiences to see where the journey takes us next.”
Producers Iwanyk and Lee emphasized their commitment to the character’s journey, saying, “It’s so important to get this story right and give John’s story the proper next step. It’s exciting to take the first step on that road.”

No release window has been provided for John Wick: Chapter 5, which joins other recently announced projects in the expanding universe, including the upcoming Ballerina spin-off starring Ana de Armas (releasing June 6, 2025), an animated prequel about John’s “impossible task,” and a Caine spin-off directed by and starring Donnie Yen.
