The Europe Yugioh World Championship 2023 Qualifiers had a special community tribute to late YuGiOh creator Kazuki Takahashi via a memorial.
Facebook user Ramon Newball posted an image of the memorial to Kazuki Takahashi, which featured a photo of the late mangaka with the caption “The Real King Of Games” along with the years he was born and passed away.
Many fans had left gifts at the memorial, ranging from traditional flowers to various iconic YuGiOh cards like Dark Magician, Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Gaia The Fierce Knight.
Ramon’s Facebook post itself has attracted grieving commenters as well, leaving their condolences for the fallen artist.
“What a nice touch to leave letters and flowers at the championship to remember him”, writes another user, Roberto Ramirez Ibarra.
“[He] lived and died as a hero”, writes Eric Suficiencia.
The YuGiOh community was shook last year with the announcement that the mangaka had passed away in a swimming accident, with many posting their condolences on social media.
YuGiOh Master Duel, the online game based on the popular TCG even had an in-game notice memorializing Takahashi’s passing after the accident.
Shortly after, more details on Takahashi’s death had surfaced- he had actually died saving someone else from drowning in the same waters.
