Akatsuki Games has announced the tentatively titled Kaiju No 8: THE GAME, an upcoming mobile and PC title based on the popular science fantasy shōnen manga series by Naoya Matsumoto.
Kaiju No 8: THE GAME is in development in collaboration with TOHO and Production I.G and will be a free-to-player title with in-game purchases for iOS, Android, and PC via Steam.
As of this writing, no release date has been announced, and many details of the game have yet to be revealed. However, an official website for the Kaiju No 8 mobile game was launched.
Alongside the announcement is a trailer that showcases what we could expect from the game – revealing several characters from the anime series, which Production I.G produced, such as protagonist Kafka Hibino in the titular Kaiju No 8 form and Kikoru Shinomiya preparing to battle.
As mentioned, Kaiju No 8 is a popular manga series and it has been serialized on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ since July 2020, with 12 tankobon volumes released thus far.
The premise is as follows:
Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side. But while she’s out neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible for the Defense Force, he decides to try out for the squad once more. There’s just one problem — he’s made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.
An anime adaptation premiered in April 2024 and is available for streaming on Crunchyroll, bilibili, and X. There is a total of 12 episodes.
