We got to experience the Junji Ito Horror House at LaLaport BBCC, which goes on from 28th September 2023 to 30th November 2023.
Information About The Event
There are a total of 3 Halls, A, B, and C. The starting point will be at either Hall A or B, with both ultimately leading to Hall C.
When we first entering the Halls, there was a brief on who Junji Ito is, alongside what he does. Each Hall contains about 5-8 iconic Junji Ito scenes, accompanied with props and actors that will reenact said scenes.
It takes about 10-15 minutes to finish the experience, and the speed of which it is completed will be determined by how fast your group walks.
After finishing each Hall, friendly faces will lead you to Hall C, where more props will be displayed, alongside sketches of Junji Ito’s work, and even 2 television screens with Junji Ito himself explaining his works.
There will also be a store after Hall C, where merchandise such as, hats, coasters, poker cards, wall scrolls, mugs, sculptures, and more will be sold.
There are a few things to note before entering each Hall.
- 8 pax per entry for each Hall.
- A rope will be given to each participant to hold so they won’t get lost.
- There are strict rules to be followed when entering the Halls, such as No Photos or Videos, No Touching The Actors, No Touching The Props, No Food Allowed, and No Large Bags.
- Participants with large bags can place them in the lockers provided.
Impressions
For Junji Ito fans, the Junji Ito Horror House is a paradise, but will sure to invoke the sense of curiosity into outsiders, and could potentially influence them into have a deeper appreciation for his art. Even if you have no knowledge of Junji Ito’s works, you might come out of the exhibit with an adrenaline rush, and looking forward to see his other works. When we stepped out of Hall A on our first experience, the only thing on our minds were, “If this is what lies within Hall A, then what does Hall B have in store for us?”.
Watching Junji Ito’s works come to life was a surreal experience. One of the things we saw were the balloon heads from The Hanging Balloons brought to life. They were placed in a tight corner, so a bunch of floating balloon head will begin staring at you as soon as you turn, just like in the manga. The size of the balloons can’t be comprehended unless you see it in person. When we made eye contact with one of the balloons, we got the chills and immediately followed the rest of the group out.
