The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) has announced that public voting for the prestigious Japan Game Awards 2025 “Game of the Year Category” will commence on Monday, June 9th and run until Friday, July 18th at 11:59 p.m. (JST).
This year marks a significant transition for the awards as CESA implements a revised eligibility period. Previously, titles released between April 1st and March 31st were considered, but moving forward, the window will shift to June 1st through May 31st. For the 2025 awards specifically, games released in Japan between April 1st, 2024, and May 31st, 2025, will be eligible as part of this transition period.

“The Japan Game Awards ‘Game of the Year’ is an award that selects and recognizes outstanding computer entertainment software works that deserve to represent the year,” CESA stated. All computer entertainment software platforms are eligible, including home video game consoles, portable game consoles, PCs, and smartphones.
In an effort to encourage public participation, CESA has announced a lottery for voters with approximately 300 prizes available. These include gaming console such as the PlayStation 5 Pro, Nintendo Switch (OLED model), and Xbox Series X consoles. Additional prizes feature gift cards, award-winning software, Tokyo Game Show 2025 admission tickets, and special invitations to the awards ceremony scheduled for September 23rd, 2025, at Iino Hall in Tokyo.
Voting can be submitted through the official Japan Game Awards website or via postal mail with required personal information. While anyone worldwide can vote for their favorite titles, lottery prizes are available only to residents of Japan. The association also announced the discontinuation of the Best Sales Award, citing difficulties in accurately tracking sales figures due to the increasing prevalence of digital downloads.
