Renowned comedy actor Jack Black might potentially be playing another iconic video game character, this time as Steve from Minecraft.
In a report by Deadline, Jack Black is said to have joined the cast of the Minecraft movie and taking on the role of Steve, the iconic blocky player character in a cyan shirt.
If the report is true, Jack Black will be joining a cast starring Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Eugen Hansen.
This will also be another video game movie adaptation project that Black joins, following the successful The Super Mario Bros Movie where he played the villainous Bowser.
He also co-wrote the movie’s love ballad “Peaches”, which he performed in the movie as Bowser and notched his third Golden Globe nomination for it.
Aside from The Super Mario Bros Movie, Black is also starring in the movie adaptation of Gearbox Software’s Borderlands where he will be playing the snarky talkative mascot robot Claptrap.
While not a direct video game movie adaptation, Black is also known for his part in the video game-inspired Jumanji film series.
The Minecraft movie will be directed by Jared Hess of Napolean Dynamite and Nacho Libre fame and is set to release in 2025.
