We’ve previously reviewed other units in the Predator Triton series, like the 900, and now it’s time for the ACER PREDATOR TRITON 300 (PT313-51) review! It’s one that can provide a whole range of things you’d need in gaming, equipped with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650, Intel Core 7th Gen processor and Gen AeroBlade 3D technology!
Design and Display: Solid for gaming
As with the rest of the Predator Triton family, the Triton 300 also has an aluminium lid and body. The 300 looks similar to the 500, weighing in at 2.40 kg and a 22.9mm profile. It isn’t especially thin and the weight is around the usual range, but it’s definitely got the chops to be a gaming laptop!
Its display is a 15.6″ LCD with In-plane Switching (IPS) technology, full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. On the lid, the Predator logo lights up thanks to LEDs! The entire design is solid. For those who need it, it has a webcam that you can see quite clearly.
Moving on to the keyboard, it has a 4-zone RGB backlight, which you can customize using the PredatorSense application. Through the app, you can also get various controls over the fan and clocking speed. The keyboard provides good clicking feedback. The WASD and arrow keys have a curvature that helps them standout from the rest of the board.
Performance: Strong enough for battle!
The true test for the laptop is surely what’s under the lid. You’ll get:
- Windows 10 Operating system
- Six-core 9 Gen IntelCore i7 processor,
- GeForce RTX 2070 overclockable with Max-Q Design 1
- Up to 32GB RAM DDR4 at 2666MHz
- PCIe NVMe Raid 01 storage
The laptop has a thicker chassis than usual, housing the steel 4th Acer AeroBlade 3D fans with CoolBoost to ensure the laptop stays cool. You’ll have RJ-45 ports, Display port, HDMI, USB Type-C 3.1 (Gen 1) and USB Type-A 3.1 (Gen 1) on the left. The right carries the power port, USB Type-A 2.0 and headphone jack. Included is Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet port for either way of connectivity.
The battery life is estimated for 6 hours, though it can naturally vary accordingly to usage as is usually the case for gaming laptops. It’s powered by a 3815mAh Li-ion battery.
Audio: Impressive 3D range
Utilizing WAVES NX 3D sound, just slip on your headphones and immerse yourself in a 360 degree luxurious sound system. Enjoy your films, music and all your entertainment in real 3D sound!
Game performance & Benchmark: Impressive results
As usual, we give the laptop a run with tests and benchmarks to really understand its caliber. As you can see from the results, it lives up to the name of the Predator Triton line! We utilize User Benchmark, PC Mark10 and 3D Mark.
Verdict
An ‘entry level’ gaming laptop may seem a little odd, considering there are also other laptops out there offering similar specifications to the Triton 300 without styling it as a gaming laptop. Considering its performance though, it makes sense. It delivers the iconic design, with a focus on the WASD keys, RGB lighting and its flexible connectivity options alongside attractive features like its 144Hz refresh rate all packed together.
