Kadokawa has announced an Isekai Museum, honoring one of the big breakout genres of the past decade. It will feature works from Konosuba, Overlord, Tanya The Evil as well as Re:Zero.
The event is set for July 17th, 2021 and will run until the 26th of September. The Isekai Museum will open shop at EJ Anime Museum in Saitama Prefecture, and will feature storyboards, key animations and more art from the popular anime series.
The museum’s official Twitter has also announced exclusive merchandise from the event, such as mugs, acrylic stands as well as T-shirts featuring special illustrations of characters like Tanya from The Saga of Tanya The Evil.
Currently, the exhibit’s website is also hosting a series of quizzes to test fans on their knowledge of the 4 different Isekai. Harder quizzes will be released down the line, letting you really test how much you know about the popular anime.
So What Is An Isekai
Isekai is a trope-turned-genre, featuring characters who get transported to a whole new world. Many isekai anime are based off of light novels, also having absurdly long titles that tends to call for their more popular portmanteau names. For example, KonoSuba is actually a portmanteau of the series actual name, Kono Subarashii Sekai Ni Shukufuku O! (God’s Blessings Upon This Wonderful World). Many anime tend to adopt the portmanteaus and use it as part of the series marketing.
Kadokawa has always really valued the Isekai series they own, creating their own spinoff series called Isekai Quartet, which featured short crossover gags with all of the characters.
