DC has announced that an Injustice movie is in production, possibly based off of the popular fighting game of the same name.
Rather than make a big announcement of it though, the Injustice movie was announced as part of the bonus features for Batman: The Long Halloween Part Two. The special edition Blu-Ray includes a special preview for the animated movie, alongside a Blue Beetle animated short.
“A Sneak peek at the next DC Animated movie- an advanced look at Injustice”, the press release reads. It should be noted while Injustice is mostly associated with the fighting game of the same name, it could very well be based on the Injustice League, who were villainous counterparts to the Justice League.
Injustice: Gods Among Us actually received its own comic, chronicling the game’s plot, which features a rogue alternate-dimension Superman ruling the world with an iron fist after being driven mad by The Joker.
Evil Superman isn’t a particularly novel idea, considering its been explored in the comics multiple times. So specifically going for the Injustice version of the story is a good sign for how well-received the game was among fans.
Injustice would go on to get a sequel in Injustice 2, which featured new mechanics such as the Gear System, which would also find its way into Mortal Kombat 11.
Batman: The Long Halloween is based off of the comic of the same name, which features Batman and then-district attorney Harvey Dent as they try to track down The Holiday Killer. The comic sets up Harvey Dent’s eventual transformation into Two-Face.
