California-based Indie developer Necrosoft Games has announced a new RPG called Demonschool, inspired by Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, and Italian horror.
The game sees you take control of Faye and her friends as they fight “big weirdos” in both the human and demon world while also navigating university life on a mysterious island.
Here is the trailer for the game:
“Demonschool is a school-life tactics RPG with hints of Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, and Italian horror cinema, where movement equals action!
Fresh-faced students are welcomed to a colorful island and its “prestigious” university, where exciting sports clubs, a world-class education, and the impending doom of a demonic apocalypse await! For freshman Faye, the last living heir to a long-forgotten family of demon hunters, school is nothing like it looks on the brochures.
While her peers get to flirt with Freud and dabble in Dante, Faye and her new band of misfit friends get shunted toward supernatural investigations. A woman who lost her face? A summoning ritual in the cemetery? Mailer Daemons!? The underworld inches ever closer to the world of humanity… college is hell!”
The game will be an RPG but also has a time management system where you must plan your school schedule to level up characters and build their skills for battle. In combat, you can rewind any action during the planning stage
It certainly sounds similar to Persona however what I find interesting is the isometric art style. It reminds me a lot of Persona 1 and 2, you know, the Persona games that most people don’t actually play.
The surrealist monsters and black upper lip on the main characters also feel familiar to anyone who’s seen Kazuma Kaneko’s work at Atlus.
School starts at Demonschool on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in 2023.
