Yet another absurd Hololive fan game has been announced: Idol Showdown, a 2d fighting game based on the popular Vtubers.
Announced on Twitter today, Idol Showdown has you pitting your favorite Hololive Vtubers against each other in what appears to be 1v1 combat.
“When will there be a full Hololive fighting game? We fellow fans thought that too. After developing this game for 2+ years, we are very proud to reveal our first trailer”, they said.
The game’s got a release window of Spring 2023, where it’ll be releasing on Steam, though the game doesn’t currently have a page up just yet.
Developed by fan Jan and featuring art by Neko TJ, they’ve confirmed the game will feature an 8-character roster, as well as rollback netcode.
Here’s the currently announced roster for the game, with 4 more characters available at launch:
- Inugami Korone
- Shirakami Fubuki
- Nakiri Ayame
- Tokino Sora
From the trailer it looks like the game’s got a pretty diverse roster for 2d anime fighter fans- Fubuki has an install with projectiles, Sora appears to have setplay options and the ability to tag in A-Chan (A producer at COVER), while Ayame and Korone appear to be different flavors of rushdown characters.
The trailer says to stay tuned for additional information, where we can likely expect a more in-depth peek at the mechanics of this fangame.
This wouldn’t even be the first time a fan has made a fun, mechanically intensive fangame- last year saw the release of HoloCure, a Vampire Survivors clone that got so popular various Hololive talents regularly stream it whenever there’s a new update.
