8ing Studio has announced the Hunter X Hunter fighting game, bringing the classic shonen manga back into the spotlight.
Published by Bushiroad Games, the title is promised to be a “Full-scale fighting game”, though the remaining specifics will be revealed at a special Bushiroad livestream in January.
The Bushiroad New Year livestream is set for January 6th, 2024.
Studio 8ing is a well known name in the fighting game industry, having developed beloved titles like Bloody Roar, as well as Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and most recently, DNF Duel.
Community reaction has been met with some trepidation- anime-based fighting games tend to skew more towards arena fighters, with titles like Kill La Kill, Demon Slayer and most famously Naruto championing the format.
It’s no surprise that there would be interest in developing a Hunter X Hunter fighting game- characters from the manga were a part of the Jump Force roster, and given the success of other anime-based fighters like Dragon Ball FighterZ and the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series,
Still, as an anime IP Hunter X Hunter has been relatively dormant- the manga has been on extended hiatus, with no anime adaptations or movies currently in production.
The series follows Gon, a young individual who wants to be the greatest Hunter and his adventures.
