For Malaysians looking for a new phone, give the Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) a shot! Huawei’s first pop-up camera phone looks just like any other flagship phone, at a fraction of the cost at RM899. Let’s see what it’s packing.
Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) Basic Specs rundown
- 16MP Auto Pop-Up Camera
- 6.59” Big Screen Ultra FullView Display
- 4,000 mAh Big Battery
- Kirin 710 Processor
- 4GB RAM 128GB Storage Capacity (expandable to 512GB)
- 16MP+8MP+2MP Triple AI Camera
- Type-C Jack
- Android Pie EMUI 9.1
Looking over the design, it’s simple, and elegant, and weighs comfortably in one hand. The colour has a nice shine to it. What would likely attract your attention is its Ultra FullView Display; a notchless, almost bezel-less, viewing experience. YouTube videos may not always fully utilize this screen real-estate, but when they do, the quality is without fault.
For you snappy selfie takers, the pop-up camera is extremely responsive even when quickly switching back and forth from pop-up camera to the triple rear cameras. Photos on the rear 6P lens cameras allows for clearer, brighter photos, for your scenery, landscapes and what have you. Try out the Ultra Wide angle or Pro modes! If you’re so inclined, the pop-up camera boasts the ability to withstand up to 15kg of pressure, 100,000+ pop-up durability and can withstand temperatures from -20°C to 60°C.
The Kirin 710F octa-core chipset is built for efficiency and speed. I gave the phone a workout with Dota Underlords on the master Best settings, to test its performance after optimization updates. Some visual effects and loading in of opponent teams can cause a slight but noticeable slowdown, but overall the phone performs well. I’d give it a pass considering Underlords can still use tweaking. For other games on their highest settings, the Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) performs excellently.
Speaking of games, the 4000mAh battery should serve most needs. Running Underlords over roughly 2 hours, consumed about 30% capacity. Depending on your usage, I find that the battery is capable of going almost 4 days off a single full charge. Heavy users can rest assured they will not have to scramble to recharge frequently. Certainly, what may surprise you is that the Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) has a Type-C USB port, unusual for a phone at this price.
Let’s not forget to mention the massive on-board memory at 128GB, that you can even expand further to 512GB! Those of you who love watching your dramas and such, just throw it all into the Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) and take advantage of that bezel-less screen! The phone also has a 3.5mm headphone jack for the fans out there.
