The HUAWEI P30 Pro has been quite the centre of attention ever since it launched last month. No surprise there as the camera is capable of of an astonishing 50x zoom but that’s not all. Here is our HUAWEI P30 Pro review.
Design and display
The HUAWEI P30 Pro is quite well designed and coming at 6.47 inches, I would say it’s the typical standard size for a smartphone nowadays. With a body that’s mostly made of glass with an aluminium frame, its dimensions are measured at 158 x 73.4 x 8.4 mm. It also weighs at 192g which is not too light nor heavy. It also comes in a total of 5 colours – Amber Sunrise, Breathing Crystal, Pearl White, Aurora and Black. That’s quite a variety. It’s pretty nice to hold as well, in my opinion.
With an OLED capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors, the HUAWEI P30 Pro‘s display comes at 1080 x 2340 pixels. Also, it has an 88.6% screen-to-body ratio which is good for mobile gamers. Not to mention that it’s both dust and water resistant, meeting the requirements of the IP68 rating. Mind you, it can last up to 30 minutes being inside water but of course, no one would want to risk it.
Camera
You could already see memes of the HUAWEI P30 Pro‘s camera circulating on social media because that’s just how great it is. The pictures taken are undoubtedly crystal-clear thanks to the powerful Leica Quad Camera, the impressive rear camera that comes in 40, 20 and 8 MP for the wide angle, ultra wide angle and telephoto lens respectively.
What produced the memes and took the headlines is indeed its 50x zoom feature. Yes, you didn’t read that wrongly. It’s fifty! Normally taking a phone’s camera zoom to its maximum limit would result in absolute blurriness but you can’t say the same for the HUAWEI P30 Pro. Although the pictures taken at 50x zoom would seem a little bit blur but still, it’s undeniable that it has taken mobile photography to a whole new level.
Furthermore, there’s also the HUAWEI Time-of-Flight (TOF) Camera that supports autofocus and the HUAWEI AI Image Stabilization. The front camera comes at 32 MP which is also quite impressive. Not to mention that both the rear and front cameras come with plenty of features such as the underwater mode so if you like mobile photography, you shouldn’t miss out on the HUAWEI P30 Pro. Simple and easy to get used to.
Overall performance
Needless to say and I’ll keep it short, the HUAWEI P30 Pro is an extremely powerful phone and it expectedly delivers in terms of its overall performance. Running on Android 9.0 and equipped with the HUAWEI Kirin 980 Octa-core Processor, with the addition of either a 6 or an 8 GB RAM, the HUAWEI P30 Pro is an expert in multitasking and capable of carrying out whatever’s required.
Gaming performance
The HUAWEI P30 Pro is capable of bringing you the best mobile gaming experience yet, all thanks to its powerful processors and high amount of RAM. The HUAWEI P30 Pro is currently the real deal when it comes to mobile gaming.
I was playing PUBG Mobile on it with settings of HDR graphics and an ultra frame rate, yet the game still ran smoothly all the way. Yes, it didn’t lag one bit at all! All the loadings went through in a flash and I really, really enjoyed the experience. If running PUBG Mobile on almost the highest graphics isn’t an issue at all, you could say that other games wouldn’t pose a threat at all.
Battery performance
To assist the gaming performance, the HUAWEI P30 Pro is equipped with a non-removable Li-Po 4200 mAh battery. Unsurprisingly, it has a fast-charging feature which is capable of charging the phone up to 70% in just 30 minutes, thanks to the HUAWEI SuperCharge. Other features include the HUAWEI Wireless Quick Charge and power bank or reverse wireless charging.
I was on PUBG Mobile for an hour and saw a decrease of only 10% in battery life which is very impressive, to be frank. The battery performance is extremely satisfying, I have to say. A phone with a combination of both extreme gaming capabilities and quality battery performance, any mobile gamer would definitely want that.
Verdict
Everything about the HUAWEI P30 Pro is great, from the design to its gaming performance and I’ve got to say, I really had a great experience using it. If you are a hardcore mobile gamer or a mobile photography enthusiast, this phone is definitely a must-get. Of course, check your pockets first because it doesn’t come cheap as the price could go as high up to RM4399.
However, there’s one thing which I don’t like which is the unavailability of an ordinary earphone/headphone jack. Therefore, you will have to do with either a Type-C earphones/headphones or a wireless one like the new HUAWEI FreeLace. Though, it still doesn’t deny the fact that the HUAWEI P30 Pro is currently the most powerful phone HUAWEI has ever produced.
