HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro was first announced last October alongside Mate 10, but later than Mate 10 (which is available in Malaysia since 28 October), the Pro only came to Malaysia on 24 November. Thanks to HUAWEI Malaysia, we are given a chance to get our hands on it so here is our HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro review!
What is in the box
The HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro package comes with some basic items that are all settled in a big square box – the phone itself, charger, USB-C cable, a pair of USB-C earphones, a flexible clear case and the Quick Start Guide. However, since Mate 10 Pro has no headphone jack, a USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter is available in the box too.
Among the 2 colours available, the model we get is in a gorgeous looking Midnight Blue. The phone design is almost identical to Mate 10 but there is still some difference – Mate 10 Pro is having a bigger display at 6 inches (18:9 ratio), while the fingerprint sensor now locates at the back just below the dual Leica cameras. Also, it is only 7.9mm, slightly slimmer than Mate 10’s (8.2 mm) thanks to the absence of headphone jack.

Display and Camera
Surprisingly, Mate 10 Pro‘s display is only 2160 x 1080 pixels (lower than the regular Mate 10’s display). However it is actually more than enough for work or for gaming as you can’t really spot the difference on the resolutions. The OLED display gives out clear and vibrant colours, while the 18:9 aspect ratio provides a wider vision (which is good for gaming).
A comparison video between 16:9 and 18:9 aspect ratio:
The cameras are exactly identical to Mate 10’s, with 20MP + 12MP on the back and 8MP on the front. The Leica branded dual camera allows you to take crystal clear shots under different light conditions (everyone can take professional photos now!).
Thanks to the Kirin 970 AI Processor, the camera will automatically detect objects or environment captured and adjust its shooting mode. For example, the camera switches to Food Mode automatically when it sees food.
Performance and Battery Life
The new HUAWEI Kirin 970 AI processor and 6GB RAM provides an outstanding performance, I am yet to experience any lagging while running the demanding mobile games such as Asphalt Xtreme and Honkai Impact 3. Multiple tasking is not a problem too, all of the processes run perfectly without a glitch.
Featuring the massive 4000mAh battery and smart battery management, Mate 10 Pro is capable of a day use for heavy-duty users. Even though the battery is running out, you can charge it up really fast as the Mate 10 Pro comes with SuperCharge technology. You can easily enjoy a whole day of gaming with it! The picture below shows how much battery is used after two hours of non-stop gaming (Arena of Valor):
Although Mate 10 Pro doesn’t allow you to expand storage with microSD card, its 128 GB ROM is more than enough for you to store all your favourite games and apps.
Special Features
HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro is powered by latest Android OS version – Oreo and HUAWEI’s all-new EMUI 8.0 that packed with innovative and easy to use features. One of the most notable features is the screen projecting function – you can project the smartphone screen on a bigger screen and even use it as a desktop just by connecting it to a wireless mouse and keyboard.
There is also a translator app that works with the NPU for instant translations (it works well).
Conclusion
HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro is having a gorgeous design, intelligent camera, incredible performance and long-lasting battery life – absolutely everything that is high-end device should have.
If you are looking for a powerful device but don’t want to spend your money on the expensive smartphones (such as Samsung and Apple’s), Mate 10 Pro could be your best choice. However, wireless charging and the headphone jack are not included in Mate 10 Pro so if you care about these, you should reconsider it again.
HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro is priced at €799 (RM3, 099) in 2 colours: Midnight Blue and Mocha Brown. You can purchase the smartphone at most HUAWEI retail stores now, or visit their official website for more information.
