Fans are upset with the latest update for Genshin Impact, which sees the previous new 5-star Yae Miko hit with a nerf to one of her skills.
In the 2.6 update for Genshin Impact, Yae Miko’s elemental skill Sesshou Sakura had its targeting priority.
“Fixes an issue with the character Yae Miko whereby her Sesshou Sakura ability would attack opponents at random. Sesshou Sakura will now prioritize attacks on the nearest opponents within range after the fix”, reads the patch notes.
Essentially, an important part of Yae Miko’s kit was a set of auto-attacking turrets- in the previous patch, they fired off at random targets, which worked well with her C2 ability that boosted their range.
Instead, however, Hoyoverse is saying the random targeting was a bug, not a feature, and the turrets would now only focus down the nearest enemies, arguably making the C2 upgrade redundant.
“It doesn’t just make C2 redundant. Because of the ICD in the game random targeting spread out her electro application way more for everyone but now her electro application has been severely hindered. On top of that if the enemy closest to the turrets is immune to electro or shielded she’s completely useless because the turrets will continue to focus on that enemy”, writes redditor RisingXRenegade.
Hoyoverse: Not A Nerf To Yae Miko
Hoyoverse has come out to defend the update though, saying that the random targeting was affecting her usability in the previous update of the game.
“The reason for this series of adjustments is that during Version 2.5, we received a substantial quantity of feedback on combat experience issues from players using Yae Miko. The main issue affecting experience was that it was unclear how Yae Miko targets enemies. In fact, this negative experience was caused by a combination of issues with both enemy and character targeting logic, and affected other enemies and characters besides Yae Miko”, they said.
“Combat data indicated that the adjustments in this plan improves Yae Miko’s unclear targeting issue to a certain degree, without creating any negative impact on her combat ability”, they continued.
While it’s never outright stated as such, it’s a nerf in the sense that it very much contradicts how players were using Yae Miko- players would now have to rethink their strategies and be smarter about placing her turrets.
However, a more predictable attack pattern could be a good thing, and some users are also hoping that this may work out as a net positive for the fox priestess.
