In Monster Hunter Rise , the game has used the Endemic life system from its predecessor, World. Unlike World though, endemic life in Rise tends to be more of a shorthand for power-ups – the various Spiribirds will give you stat boosts, and creatures like Puppet Spiders can help you mount monsters easier.
If you’re gunning to complete the Endemic life entries in Monster Hunter Rise, there’s one creature you might have missed. Unlike the others, this one doesn’t give you any buffs, outside of maybe creeping you out if you bump into it accidentally.
The creature is called the Monksnail, and its easy to mistake it as a teaser for future content. You might see it eerily poking its head out at you if you’ve wandered near it by accident. Here’s how to get it to appear in your game:
First, you’ll need to head to the Frost Islands, specifically at night. You can easily do this by doing an Expedition Tour, which will let you set the time of day when you go there. Next, you want to head to the shipwreck that sits between areas 10 and 8. Wirebug your way to the top of the ship, it’s perfectly doable with only two wirebugs. It should be noted you’re targeting the front of the ship, not the crow’s nest.
Finally, just look out to the horizon. It’ll take a while to spawn, and you can hear its roar. Whip out your camera to snap a photo of it, adding its information to your notes. You’ll even get a little ping to tell you that you’ve just discovered new Endemic Life, rather than a super secret boss fight.
Don’t bother trying to run up to it though, since you’re taking the photo at the map’s boundary and can’t go any further.
Here’s the creature’s Hunter Notes entry, if you want to look around for more information. It looks like seemingly giant light up eyes at night was a common occurrence, spooking many a sailor.
